"OLD SEREMBAN'S STREET FOOD"

BENTENG (embankment or floodgate). One of my favourite place to find good food. Specifically "Masakan Minang" or "Nasi Padang". Since my father has the Minangkabau's blood flowing in his veins, Minang's food is a must have at least twice a week for our family."Masakan Minang" or "Nasi Padang" is quite expensive, so where do we find these kind of food with reasonable price? BENTENG is the right place for us. What is BENTENG? A place where the food hawkers are hawking. An outdoor foodcourt with varieties of street food.

We usually will buy "Masakan Minang" from the below stall, the price is very reasonable. We normally will get beef rendang, "Gulai daging", "ikan sembilang", "begedil" and a few other dishes for four people, and the price had never exceeded RM50.00 (between RM20-RM48, depends on the type of dishes). Hubby loves this stall because they sell "Kerupuk SAPI", a type of crackers made from the cow's skin (can be considered as a delicacy since it is quite hard to find), the stall's owner mentioned that he had imported it directly from Minangkabau, Indonesia. I tried it once but that was it, for me it tasted like car tyres. But hubby loves it anyway. Clean definitely clean street food and HALAL. You can find this stall directly in front of RHB bank.

Sometimes, hubby and me just wanted to eat simple street food. BENTENG will be one of the places that we normally go to for dinner.

Other stalls that offered different type of food.

Fried Chicken Rice, it is totally different than the fried rice with chicken, It must be the chicken rice itself fried together with the chicken. Confusing? I was confused as well but now understood the concept. :D You can order this dish from the stall called "Gerai Che Puan", cheap and tasty.

Now the BENTENG was actually located elsewhere and really looked like the embankment, but they had to move hawkers to a new place since new development took place at there. Hence with the hawkers, they brought along the name "BENTENG" together, so eventhough the below picture does not look like the embankment but now it is called "BENTENG", this is how the place will look like during daytime. Yes, BENTENG operation hours starts at 6pm until 12am (night time).

The current BENTENG is now located at Jalan Dato' Abdul Rahman, Seremban, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia.
